What would you say if I confided that -- for the most part -- I like problems? More accurately, I like the buzz that I get by coming up with solutions. Weaving possibilities around roadblocks gives me a sense of purpose. That's not to say I've loved every trial that's come my way. But the hardest obstacle for me to overcome, by far, has been success.
When each crisis has been conquered after a momentary triumph, I'm at a loss. That's why I was happy to read a new post at Life Hack, Getting Past Done: What to Do After You’ve Finished a Big Project.
There, author Dustin Wax captures the full emotional roller coaster of my dilemma:
There’s no feeling in the world quite like the mixture of triumph and sadness that comes after finishing a project you’ve been working on for months or even years. On one hand, you’re done and can finally release your finished product, whatever it is, into the world. On the other hand, though, completing a big goal leaves a little emptiness in your life ... one of the major driving forces in your life is gone.
Better yet, Dustin provides steps to debrief, build on your success and look at the big picture.
If you, like me, suffer from the angst of completion, check out Wax's post here.
