Life lessons

Glads Peggy Payne may have said it best when she --in her Boldness Blog -- wrote of the lessons learned during a weekend featuring the wedding of friend aged 65 and the funeral of one who was 44. The lessons were, “One: it's never too late. Two: don't delay.”

Payne's post made an impression upon me, yet deep down I saw the example as an anomaly. Until this week.

Several years after my uncle's death, my aunt -- by now in her late seventies -- was scheduled to remarry on Saturday. How wonderful it was to know that love can bloom at any age!

My happiness for aunt was dampened, however, when my sister called on Tuesday to tell me that a 54-year-old cousin of ours had died, unexpectedly, of a heart-attack. The funeral was Friday.

My cousin lived in a small farming community, yet over 1,500 mourners attended the visitation. More packed into services held first at the Catholic and then the Lutheran church. Several of these same mourners would turn out again on Saturday for the wedding.

As I considered these two family events, back-to-back, I saw a third lesson underlying Payne's two observations: life is ultimately about love. Love is what makes life worth living. And it's what makes a life worth remembering.

Dan and Titania,
Usually I refrain from writing conclusions like the one for this post; too often it seems our words about love come off as cliches. But what do you do when the sentiments are so true? Maybe instead of writing sparingly of love, I should write about it more! And perhaps I should live it more!

P.S. Dan, Can't wait to check out your link!

Brenda…

May I refer you to another blog I am commenting on, in which myself and the author are discussing simplicity?

What you have said above is an example of this… love is at the core of everything that matters – everything that *truly* matters…

Ultimately…

At the end of the day…

When all is said and done…

Love is ***ALL*** you need…

… as a famous person once said! :)

What a wonderful message. Love is what life is all about.
